We saw Julie & Julia last night as a trat from my Mom. I thought it was sweet that she sent us to see it. It wasn't until i was falling asleep that i made the connection between the movie and Mom going to cooking school for a few years when my sister went to college. Oh! Ah! She's sharing something of her and Dad's travels as well as a sweet movie.

I did enjoy the movie, but was more fascinate by Julia Child's life than Julie's. I must admit that the New York City notion of success that underlies some of the motivation early in the film seems a dull thing compared to Julia Child's invention of her own passion. On the other hand, i suppose i'm dismissing Julia Child's failure to succeed as a mother to quickly. The societal definition of success for Julia would have been being a mother.

(We did miss the beginning of the film: was this context given more explicitly? We came in when Julie was having lunch with her high-powered friends.)

Meanwhile, i'm trying to reboot myself. Sleeping a good deal. I think i had too much sugar at the movie and that's why my morning wake-up today has been so dreadful. I wonder if sugar is the cause of the less than ideal state i've been in, or at least a major factor? I think i've slid in my resistance to sweets over the past weeks. Time to get back on the wagon.

In minor news, i found a used wedding dress consignment place in the east bay, but i think they only take dresses less than five years old. I also found a local computer repair shop that does data recovery: i've sent my story with hopes they'll let me know if they can handle it or if i should send it on to one of the big names.
