I am craving and wishing for a bunch of uncommon citrus: blood and cara cara oranges, meyer lemons, and i would like to try kumquats. I suppose i'll see if the grocery has kumquats. They had Buddha's hand citron when i was there last.

But grocery store citrus leaves me sad, as i think about roadside stands in California. When we drove through Florida last i looked for roadside stands but what i saw seemed stuck in 1970.

Christmas Red Navels from Florida 8# 30$ - maybe like cara cara? They have honeybells too, which i would like to try (again?).

Really exotic! And what a story! 12# 70$ (includes fedex shipping) Her facebook describes read meat oranges -- surely those are blood oranges? And Meyers. She has a barrier to ordering -- use text messages "The best way to order is to text me on my cell phone 504-912-2093."

Clementines are good, but it seems like they are not as good as they used to be? Blood oranges are good too. I am weird about citrus - I have to peel off all the white cruft, and peel each individual section. Except for clementines, which have a thinner membrane. So a lot of work/mess but still good. Luckily I get vit c from other sources. I've seen Buddha's hands but have not looked into what to do with them - they don't look very fruity.
For kumquats, I again suggest the Asian groceries. Good produce in general.
But yeah California roadside stands - strawberries in season, avocados that have flavor, sigh.

I'd say take advantage of the citrus while you can:

My favorite is the mandarin, though I haven't found it in my store for the last two years :(

It's almost kumquat season. It's usually January-spring. (I have a tree)

I always crave blood oranges.

Perhaps I was once some kind of vampire fruit? :o)

I remember hitting some of those Florida stands off 75 some years ago. The oranges were so fresh! I hope they still exist there now.
