I'm staying home sick today. Yay.

Seeing this gift list meme, i am exploring the wishes i have.

"Fantasy Island"

1) A magic pill that would resolve the nagging health issues and the depression with the option to take another magic pill that would return me to my normal if i hate myself without these constraints.

3) House cleaning elves who thrive on spilled birdseed and catfood. I'll even throw in a saucer of milk. Have to be able to clean house without falling prey to cats.

4) Storage containers that store my craft supplies in only a few cubic feet but store ALL the craft supplies. This probably has some really dangerous side effect that i'm not seeing like, falling through the floor or developing a gravitational pull of its own.

"Wishful Thinking"

6) Long distance transit to family and the Whale HQ that is environmentally sound, comparable in cost to airfare, and is either is as speedy as current airtravel or is comfortable enough with technical support (wifi, power) so that i can work and sleep during transit. Dear Amtrack, Pu-leeeeesssseee!

"Possible but not easily bought"

2) The perfect job where i have time to LEAD and time to DESIGN, where we are solving problems i find meaningful, where someone else is capable at finding clients (and/or grants) enough to keep our company thriving. If i also get the magic pill it could be more demanding, if i don't get the magic pill it has to allow me time to stay healthy. [I put this under Fantasy, but i decided i would move it to Possible.]

"Money can't buy EVERYTHING but it can buy this..."

5) Omnigraffle, a personal copy. I think that would be more useful than a copy of Word.

Tempted to buy the set of Get Lamp and BBS The documentary: http://www.getlamp.com/order/ (also http://www.bbsdocumentary.com/) It's a bit of a splurge, but Netflix doesn't mention either film. Not at the city library, either.

Weather service says, "AFTER A FEW DAYS OF DRY WEATHER...AN APPROACHING PACIFIC STORM SYSTEM WILL SPREAD RAINFALL THROUGH THE NORTH BAY STARTING TONIGHT AND CONTINUING INTO FRIDAY. ALTHOUGH RAINFALL TOTALS ARE NOT EXPECTED TO BE NEARLY AS ROBUST AS THE STORM LAST WEEKEND... AMOUNTS WILL STILL BE FAIRLY HIGH. "

21st: trace, 22nd: 0.03", 23rd: 0.11", 24th: 0.05" So, "not nearly as robust" as last weekend's .19" of rain, .2" if you're generous? (Someone got rain last weekend because i saw flood warnings, but the orographic effect, does really make things local. Ah, Santa Rosa had over 2" of rain last Saturday.)

I got an announcement in my email today that http://www.modrobotics.com/ was taking early orders and i promptly went to go order, without reading the fine print. Since it was all on my phone, it was almost all fine print, but i was able to read the price. Yikes! $300! But it turns out the $300 is for the first 100 beta versions of the "toy:" twenty robotic modules of three types, sensors, logic modules, and action modules.

It reminded me of another "toy" that looks incredibly cool: http://www.makerbeam.com/makerbeam.html

I hope that the cubelets go into production and drop in price. I can't justify buying them for myself alone, especially since i have not played with my legos that i got last Yule. But i can justify buying them for the nephices! (My new term for nephews and nieces -- real term welcomed).

In cheaper wishing, there's the new release of a historic 1906 Market St Film -- http://streetcar.org/store/trip-dvd.html $13 -- reported on by 60 Minutes (which apparently airs whole segments supported by advertising) http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/10/14/60minutes/main6958102.shtml .

When i think for just a moment i realize i don't really want a copy: some point i'll get a chance to watch it.

Going to Niles to watch silent films is on a wish list of another sort.
